It still hasn&#8217;t taken off, and a lot of the reason is the many &#8220;optional&#8221; APIs that manufacturers could support. If you did an app that were really useful it wasn&#8217;t likely that there were many phonemodels out there that had just the combination of APIs you needed. Hopefully that will change with the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.artima.com\/lejava\/articles\/future_of_mobile_java.html\">introduction of MSA<\/a>.
